Not Van-Houston McMillion.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he is getting ready to start classes at Alabama&#8217;s Calhoun Community College.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/whnt.com\/news\/decatur\/decatur-nonprofit-giving-away-school-supplies-other-necessities\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tDecatur nonprofit giving away school supplies, other necessities\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>On Tuesday afternoon, the 13-year-old toured the campus and met with school leaders. In the fall, he will begin his studies toward an Associate of Science in General Education with a focus on chemistry.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a topic he&#8217;s studied since he was a young child.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/whnt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2025\/07\/tag-vo.00_00_19_22.Still001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flashofthestars.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/tag-vo.00_00_19_22.Still001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2555407\" style=\"width:600px;height:auto\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Van-Houston McMillion checking out one of the science labs at Calhoun Community College. (WHNT)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;I definitely think it&#8217;s a blessing from God that I have this understanding,&#8221; Van-Houston said. &#8220;But I think that every kid everywhere has a gift and a calling that they&#8217;re better than anybody else in the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Van-Houston is homeschooled and said he owes a lot of his success to how he was taught.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The attitude around schooling in our house was so much different than the classic public school,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The teen prodigy says he also used a lot of online resources for learning, such as Khan Academy. However, nothing beats a &#8220;good old-fashioned textbook,&#8221; Van-Houston said with a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>As he prepares to take the next step in his learning journey, he has some big dreams in mind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel like it&#8217;s every scientist&#8217;s dream to cure cancer, and I think that pharmaceuticals would be a great way to do that,&#8221; he told Nexstar&#8217;s WHNT.<\/p>\n<p>Van-Houston is now Calhoun Community College&#8217;s youngest student to ever enroll.
